The EU-China Sustainable Urbanisation Park (SUP) launching ceremony was successfully held at Shenyang Royal Wanxin Hotel on July 23rd. The EU Ambassador Mr. Markus Ederer, and the Shenyang Mayor Mr. Chen Haibo launched the project and the official website together with Mr. Li Tie, President of NDRC Center for Urban Development and Mr. Dirk Moens, EUCCC Secretary General, as well as Mr. Florian Schmied (CEO of ESI). The “EU-China Sustainable Urbanisation Park” (SUP) is the pilot project initiated under the Urbanisation Partnershipas one of the flagship deliverables for the EU- China Partnership on Urbanisation.
The Partnership on Urbanisation was launched at the EU- China Summit on 14th February 2012 in Beijing by Premier Wen Jiabao and EU leaders. The Partnership was further deepened on 3rd of May 2012 with the signature of a joint declaration between Vice Premier Li Keqiang and President of the European Commission José Manuel Barroso. The Partnership aims at promoting exchanges and cooperations in a wide range of sustainable urban developments. In accordance with this policy guidance, the SUP will showcase the European sustainable strategies for China's urbanisation. The project will be genuinely European, technically state-of-the-art in terms of sustainability, and will be an exemplar in the areas of trade, investment and procurement frameworks.
Consisting of 666.000 sqm (1000 mu) site area, the project has 3 main functions: A residential community to demonstrate the green and sustainable housing; A business park consisting of office and research base which allows the European SMEs to establish their first offices in China and concentrate on researching the energy-saving and sustainable urbanisation; A light industry park which allows the European suppliers to showcase such products as well as establish their first small scale assembly in China. The project will be divided into 3 phases with 50% residential, 25% office headquarters and 25% light industry.
Following this launching ceremony in Shenyang, the presentation of the SUP will also take place in Brussels on the 19th September 2012, as part of the official programme of the first EU-China Mayors Forum. The forum will take place simultaneously with the 15th EU- China Summit, and both Premier Wen Jiabao and EU leader(s) will address the plenary of the Mayors Forum.
The stakeholders of this project are the European Union Delegation to China (EU Delegation) who gives the necessary political support to the SUP Project under the Partnership; the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC) who is responsible for establishing the EU-China Sustainable Urbanisation Business Council and supports the SUP project; Shenyang government, who ensures the right location and the availability of the land; Euro Sino Invest (ESI), who is in charge for the whole development from the investment process through construction to sales. With rich experiences in RE development, European noble background, and a long successful business family history, ESI is selected to be the only developer of this project.
